Embedded system design as a discipline has long been pursued in the industry in various application domains including avionics, aerospace, automobile, and industrial control. Within the Asia-Pacific region, the embedded system industry has reached a high level of success. This has resulted in a growing demand for highly-trained and skilled manpower to meet the ever growing demand for trained human resources. This has spurred a growing emphasis on embedded systems education in most of the universities in the Asia-Pacific region as evidenced by the strong participation from the researchers in the region in the annual Workshop on Embedded Systems Education (WESE), eager to share their experiences with designing and offering embedded systems courses and curricula. We think that this sets the stage for providing a suitable forum for the faculty in the Asia-Pacific region to meet and share their experiences, both in education and research on embedded systems. This workshop is held with the following objectives:
- Provide a forum for researchers in the Asia-Pacific region to share their educational expertise and interact with the colleagues in the region
- Provide a platform to promote the evolution of a common and holistic embedded systems curricula that could be adopted by the universities in the region
- Provide researchers with a forum to meet and share research expertise and experience
- Promote inter-university collaboration on research and teaching in embedded systems
- Provide a platform for industry leaders in embedded systems to interact with academic researchers to evolve human resources training and curricula that better meets their needs
The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Curriculum Design
- Course Design & Teaching Experience
- Courseware/Platform Design & User Experience
- Hands-on Lab Design and Training
- Research in Embedded Systems and Software
- Consortium Society Activities
- Student Promotion and Competition
- International Collaboration
- Industrial Collaboration
- Education Program Evaluation
